I. Design and Plate Making

II. Paper Selection and Pre-treatment
The base material for paper gift boxes is usually cardboard, corrugated paper, or specialty paper, depending on the purpose and load-bearing requirements of the gift box. Common paper weights range from 200-400 g/m², with high-end gift boxes potentially using thicker specialty art paper or hot stamping paper.

After material selection, the paper undergoes moisture conditioning to ensure stability during printing and die-cutting, preventing deformation or warping due to humidity changes. Some high-end gift boxes also undergo lamination (such as glossy or matte lamination) to enhance surface gloss or anti-slip properties.

 

III. Printing and Surface Finishing
Printing is one of the core processes in paper gift box production, directly impacting its visual appeal. Common printing methods include:

1. Offset printing (lithography): Suitable for intricate designs, high color fidelity, and suitable for mass production.

2. Flexographic printing: Environmentally friendly and lower cost, often used for simple designs.

3. Digital printing: Suitable for small-batch customization needs, requires no plate making, and offers high flexibility.

After printing, depending on design requirements, the following surface finishing processes may be necessary:

• Hot stamping (gold/silver): Enhances the luxurious feel of the gift box.

• UV Spot Coating: Enhances the abrasion resistance and gloss of specific areas.

• Embossing/Debossing: Adds tactile feel and a three-dimensional effect.

 

IV. Die-cutting and Creasing
Die-cutting is the process of precisely cutting printed paper to the designed shape, while creasing is the pre-pressing of creases to prepare for subsequent folding. This step uses a die-cutting machine with pre-made dies to cut the paper into the required box shapes. Die-cutting accuracy directly affects the assembly effect of the gift box, so the sharpness of the die and the machine pressure must be strictly controlled.

 

V. Folding and Gluing
After die-cutting, the cardboard needs to be folded manually or mechanically to form the basic structure of the gift box. After folding, environmentally friendly adhesives (such as starch glue, white glue, or hot melt glue) are used for gluing to ensure that the lid, body, and other components are firmly joined. Some high-end gift boxes may use a locking bottom structure or a tongue-and-groove design to reduce glue usage and improve environmental friendliness.

 

VI. Assembly and Quality Inspection After folding and gluing, the gift boxes enter the assembly stage. Workers or automated equipment place the lining (such as EVA foam, silk fabric, etc.) inside the box, ensuring smooth opening and closing of the lid. After assembly, rigorous quality inspection is required, including:

• Appearance Inspection: Clear printing, complete hot stamping, and absence of scratches or stains.

• Structural Inspection: Sturdy box body, smooth folds, and smooth opening and closing.

• Dimensional Inspection: Ensuring compliance with customer specifications.

 

VII. Packaging and Shipping Quality-inspected paper gift boxes will undergo dustproof packaging, typically wrapped in film or placed in cartons to prevent damage during transportation. Some high-end gift boxes will also be reinforced with moisture-proof paper or bubble wrap for added protection. Finally, the products are packaged and shipped according to order requirements to the customer.

 

The production process of paper gift boxes involves multiple stages, including design, printing, die-cutting, and gluing. Each step requires meticulous operation to ensure the final product's aesthetics, practicality, and environmental friendliness.
